Praying Together 2021

102 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. May the peace of God be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT Let us pray for God’s care and protection. (pause) All-powerful God, your love never fails. Hear our call, keep us from danger, and remind us to trust in you whenever we are afraid. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark 4:36-40 Jesus’ disciples started across the lake with him in the boat. Some other boats followed along. Suddenly a windstorm struck the lake. Waves started splashing into the boat, and it was about to sink. Jesus was in the back of the boat with his head on a pillow, and he was asleep. His disciples woke him and said, "Teacher, don’t you care that we’re about to drown? " Jesus got up and ordered the wind and the waves to be quiet. The wind stopped, and everything was calm. Jesus asked his disciples, "Why were you afraid? Don’t you have any faith?" The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. RESPONSE Have you ever been in a boat? If so, it was hopefully a sunny day! If you were one of the disciples in today’s bible story, do you think you would have been afraid to be in a small boat in a storm with the waves tossing you about? Watch the animation from Saddleback Kids called “Jesus Calms the Storm”. Let’s pray that we will remember to trust Jesus whenever we are afraid. DISMISSAL May Christ the Lord walk beside us. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Ring the bell or chime to signal the end of the prayer. Extinguish the candle.
