Hear our prayers when we call to you, and help us to share what we have with others. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 6:5-13 Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, spoke up and said, “There is a boy here who has five small loaves of barley bread and two fish. But what good is that with all these people?” The ground was covered with grass, and Jesus told his disciples to have everyone sit down. About five thousand men were in the crowd. Jesus took the bread in his hands and gave thanks to God. Then he passed the bread to the people, and he did the same with the fish, until everyone had plenty to eat. The people ate all they wanted, and Jesus told his disciples to gather up the leftovers, so that nothing would be wasted. The disciples gathered them up and filled twelve large baskets with what was left over from the five barley loaves. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. RESPONSE This miracle of Jesus is sometimes called ‘The Feeding of the Five Thousand” and it is the only miracle other than the Resurrection to appear in all four Gospels. The important message is that Jesus is the only one who can really satisfy our hunger. No problem is ever too big for Jesus! To reflect on this wonderful story, watch the short video by Saddleback Kids called “Jesus Feeds the 5,000”. DISMISSAL May Christ, the bread of life, look upon us with kindness and give us peace. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Ring the bell or chime to signal the end of the prayer. Extinguish the candle. Friday Week 16 Ordinary Time 23 July 2021 ”Jesus took the bread in his hands and gave thanks to God.”
