Praying Together 2021
137 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. The Lord be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT In the Transfiguration of the Lord, we catch a glimpse of the glory of the risen Christ. Let us pray that this will encourage us on our way to God. (pause) God of glory, as we take up our cross to follow Christ may we come to share his glory forever. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 9:28-32, 34-35 Jesus took Peter, John, and James with him and went up on a mountain to pray. While he was praying, his face changed, and his clothes became shining white. Suddenly Moses and Elijah were there speaking with him. They appeared in heavenly glory and talked about all that Jesus' death in Jerusalem would mean. Peter and the other two disciples had been sound asleep. All at once they woke up and saw how glorious Jesus was. Then a shadow from a cloud passed over them, and they were frightened as the cloud covered them. From the cloud a voice spoke, "This is my chosen Son. Listen to what he says!" The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. RESPONSE Walking by the light of Christ, let us pray that Christ will dispel the darkness of this world. For those who strive to hear Jesus’ voice: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For people who are lonely or frightened: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For the courage to do what Jesus asks of us: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For those who brighten our lives with kindness: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For the prayers in our hearts today: (pause while students offer their prayers aloud) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. DISMISSAL May the light of Christ guide our way. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Ring the bell or chime to signal the end of the prayer. Extinguish the candle. “His face changed, and his clothes became shining white.” Friday The Transfiguration of the Lord 6 August 2021
