154 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. The Lord be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT Let us pray that our love for God will be expressed in our eagerness to do good. (pause) Lord God, make your love and grace the foundation of our lives. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 13:34-35 Jesus said to his disciples: “I am giving you a new command. You must love each other, just as I have loved you. If you love each other, everyone will know that you are my disciples.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. RESPONSE Gathered before God our Father and Creator, let us pray for the needs of the world. For the people who show us love and care: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For those who feel unloved today: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For willingness to show our love in action: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For love and understanding in our families: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For the prayers in our hearts today: (pause while students offer their prayers aloud) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. DISMISSAL May the love of God be alive in us. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Ring the bell or chime to signal the end of the prayer. Extinguish the candle.
