158 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. May the love and peace of God be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT Let us pray that we may be joyful in our service of God and one another. (pause) O God, source of power and inspiration, grant us strength and joy in serving you. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 10:40, 42 Jesus said to his disciples: “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me. And anyone who welcomes me also welcomes the one who sent me. Anyone who gives one of my most humble followers a cup of cool water, just because that person is my follower, will surely be rewarded.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. RESPONSE Jesus tells us in today’s Scripture reading that when we welcome someone we are actually welcoming Jesus. The next time you do something kind for another person, remember that you are actually doing it for Jesus.
