179 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. May the grace and peace of God be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT Let us pray that we will grow in love and obedience. (pause) God, our Father in heaven, teach us to show our love for you by treating others as we want to be treated, just as Jesus taught us. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 6:27-28, 31 Jesus said to his disciples, “This is what I say to all who will listen to me: Love your enemies, and be good to everyone who hates you. Ask God to bless anyone who curses you, and pray for everyone who is cruel to you. Treat others just as you want to be treated.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. RESPONSE Jesus’ words to the disciples in today’s reading are words that you may have heard your parents or teachers say to you before “Treat others like you want to be treated.” Some people will say “Do to others as you would have them do to you”. This is known as the Golden Rule. We all like people to treat us with kindness and respect, to help us when we need it, and to get to know us – so that’s exactly what we should do for others.
