186 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. The love of God be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT Let us pray that God will set us free to serve him. (pause) Lord God, open our eyes to the needs of others and give us the joy and peace of serving you in freedom. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark 10:43-45 Jesus called the disciples together and said: “If you want to be great, you must be the servant of all the others. And if you want to be first, you must be everyone’s slave. The Son of Man did not come to be a slave master, but a slave who will give his life to rescue many people.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. RESPONSE Gathered as members of God’s family, let us pray for the needs of the world. For all who serve and lead the Church: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For those who visit the sick and elderly: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For willingness to put others before ourselves: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For all who follow God’s law of love: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For the prayers in our hearts today: (pause while students offer their prayers aloud) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. DISMISSAL May the word of God strengthen our hearts. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Ring the bell or chime to signal the end of the prayer. Extinguish the candle.
