193 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. The Lord be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT Let us pray that we may recognise the presence of Christ in our midst. (pause) Father most holy, help us remember that Christ our Saviour lives with you in glory and promised to remain with us until the end of time. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 13:3-4 Jesus said to his disciples: “The kingdom of heaven is like what happens when someone finds treasure hidden in a field and buries it again. A person like that is happy and goes and sells everything in order to buy that field. The kingdom of heaven is like what happens when a shop owner is looking for fine pearls. After finding a very valuable one, the owner goes and sells everything in order to buy that pearl.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. RESPONSE Have you ever wondered what the kingdom of heaven is like? Jesus tried to answer this question for his disciples by telling them parables about hidden treasure and a special pearl.
