196 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. The Lord be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT Saints Simon and Jude were among the twelve apostles, the first disciples of Christ. Let us pray that we will follow Christ more closely. (pause) Lord God, by the intercession of Saint Simon and Saint Jude, bring many people to believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah 41:10 The Lord says this: Don’t be afraid! I am with you. Don’t tremble with fear. I am your God. I will help you to be strong, as I protect you with my arm and give you victories. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. RESPONSE In the light of this new day, let us pray for the needs of the world. For those who are afraid: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For those who are sick in hospital: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For people who struggle with mental illness: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For those living in war-torn countries: (pause) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. For the prayers in our hearts today: (pause while students offer their prayers aloud) We pray as one. Gracious God, hear our prayer. DISMISSAL May God protect us from all harm. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
