Praying Together 2021

197 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. The Lord be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT Let us pray that we grow in our love of God and other people. (pause) God our Father, help us to be more like your son, Jesus, and keep your love alive in our hearts. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark 12:28-31 One of the teachers of the Law of Moses came up while Jesus and the Sadducees were arguing. When he heard Jesus give a good answer, he asked him, “What is the most important commandment?” Jesus answered, “The most important one says: ‘People of Israel, you have only one Lord and God. You must love him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.’ The second most important commandment says: ‘Love others as much as you love yourself.’ No other commandment is more important than these.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. RESPONSE In today’s scripture reading, Jesus tells his followers that there are two important commandments to follow. Jesus says “No other commandment is more important than these.” These two important commandments of Jesus are easy to remember: Love God and love others! Let’s lift our voices in joyful song as we reflect on Jesus’ words. As you sing “Greatest Commandment” by Adrian Andres, think about how you can love God and love other people today. DISMISSAL May the love of Christ inspire us. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Ring the bell or chime to signal the end of the prayer. Extinguish the candle. Friday Week 30 Ordinary Time 29 October 2021 “No other commandment is more important than these.”
