198 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. May the grace and peace of God be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT The Communion of Saints means that all Christians, living and dead, are united as the one family of God. Let us pray together as a family of love. (pause) O God, help us on earth by the prayers of the saints in heaven so that one day we will be united in your glorious kingdom with Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 23:8-12 Jesus' disciples gathered around him, and he taught them: "God blesses those people who depend only on him. They belong to the kingdom of heaven! "God blesses those people who grieve. They will find comfort! "God blesses those people who are humble. The earth will belong to them! "God blesses those people who want to obey him more than to eat or drink. They will be given what they want! "God blesses those people who are merciful. They will be treated with mercy!
