Praying Together 2021

210 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. May the peace of Christ be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT Saint Elizabeth was a young mother who also cared for the needy in Hungary. We pray for young mothers. (pause) Hear our prayers, O God, for mothers who care for their children and work for a better world. Give them strength. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 2:1-5 Mary, the mother of Jesus, was at a wedding feast in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited and were there. When the wine was all gone, Mary said to Jesus, "They don't have any more wine." Jesus replied, "Mother, my time has not yet come! You must not tell me what to do." Mary then said to the servants, "Do whatever Jesus tells you to do." The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. RESPONSE The words of Mary to the servants at the wedding in today’s scripture passage could just as easily have been spoken to us today: “Do whatever Jesus tells you to do.” It is not quite the same for us, since Jesus is no longer on earth to talk to us directly. That’s why we need to spend quiet time in prayer with Jesus so that he can speak to our hearts. Let’ s spend some time with Jesus now. Ask Jesus to let you know what he wants you to do. DISMISSAL May God’s word strengthen our hearts. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Ring the bell or chime to signal the end of the prayer. Extinguish the candle. Wednesday St Elizabeth of Hungary 17 November 2021 “Do whatever Jesus tells you to do."
