Praying Together 2021
212 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. May the peace of Christ be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT Let us pray that the kingdom of Christ will come to our world. (pause) God our Creator, move our hearts to care for all you have made, as we work together for the sake of your kingdom. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 18:36-37 Jesus said to Pilate, “My kingdom doesn’t belong to this world. If it did, my followers would have fought to keep me from being handed over to you. No, my kingdom does not belong to this world.” “So you are a king,” Pilate replied. “You are saying that I am a king,” Jesus told him. “I was born into this world to tell about the truth. And everyone who belongs to the truth knows my voice.” The Gospel of the Lord . Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. RESPONSE This weekend in Churches all over the world, Christians will celebrate the feast of Christ the King. We have heard in today’s reading that Jesus is a king – but his kingdom is not of this world. Jesus is the king of heaven! A popular Christian hymn to celebrate this feast is called “Praise My Soul the King of Heaven” from the Hymn Channel. This recording is from Belfast in Ireland where hundreds of people filled Waterfront Hall to sing together, along with an orchestra. DISMISSAL May Christ the Lord walk beside us. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Ring the bell or chime to signal the end of the prayer. Extinguish the candle. Friday Week 33 Ordinary Time 19 November 2021 “My kingdom does not belong to this world.”
