Praying Together 2021

217 Gather Light a candle as a sign of God’s presence and sit quietly. Ring a bell or chime to start the prayer. The Lord be with you! And with your spirit. COLLECT Let us pray that we will keep our minds and hearts fixed on Jesus. (pause) Faithful God, guide us in your gentle mercy and help us to please you in our daily lives. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. SCRIPTURE A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 21:34-36 Jesus said to his disciples: “Don’t spend all of your time thinking about eating or drinking or worrying about life. If you do, the final day will suddenly catch you like a trap. That day will surprise everyone on earth. Watch out and keep praying that you can escape all that is going to happen and that the Son of Man will be pleased with you.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. RESPONSE In the scripture reading we have just heard, Jesus encourages his followers to keep praying that their actions will be pleasing to him. Let’s spend a few moments in silence to think about the things we could do today or over the weekend that would be pleasing to Jesus. Remember that these actions would not only make Jesus happy, but would make those around you happy too! DISMISSAL May the love of Christ inspire us. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Ring the bell or chime to signal the end of the prayer. Extinguish the candle. Friday Week 34 Ordinary Time 26 November 2021 “Watch out and keep praying.”
